This bold, uniform color makes the Red Cover Discus a standout in any aquarium, especially when paired with green plants or darker backgrounds that enhance its fiery appearance.

Habitat and Behavior

While the Red Cover is a domesticated strain, all Discus trace their origin to the soft, warm blackwater rivers of the Amazon Basin, where they live among submerged roots and vegetation. Red Cover Discus share the peaceful and social temperament typical of the species, and they thrive best when kept in groups of five or more, forming close social hierarchies.

Aquarium Care

In aquariums, Red Cover Discus thrive in well-planted, low-flow tanks with soft substrate and warm, stable water. They prefer dim lighting and benefit from driftwood, tall plants, and gentle filtration. Maintaining excellent water quality is critical, as Discus are sensitive to changes in parameters. These fish pair well with peaceful tankmates such as cardinal tetras, rummy nose tetras, Corydoras catfish, and other Discus.

Size and Suitability

Growing to about 15–20 cm (6–8 inches), the Red Cover Discus is ideal for medium to large aquariums and suits aquarists who can provide a stable, high-quality environment. Its intense solid coloration, elegant movements, and social nature make it a true centerpiece fish.
