The Pantodon Butterflyfish (Pantodon buchholzi), also known as the Freshwater Butterflyfish or African Butterflyfish, is a striking and unique species native to the slow-moving rivers, streams, and swamps of West and Central Africa, including regions in Nigeria and Cameroon. This fish is named for its wide, triangular pectoral fins, which resemble butterfly wings and give it an elegant and graceful appearance.In the wild, Pantodon Butterflyfish are surface-dwelling fish that primarily feed on insects, small fish, and other invertebrates that fall or float on the water’s surface. Their large, wing-like fins allow them to glide gracefully over the water while hunting, and they are also capable of making short jumps to capture prey above the surface.In aquariums, the Pantodon Butterflyfish requires a well-maintained tank with plenty of open swimming space at the surface, as this is where they spend most of their time.
