Habitat and Behavior
In the wild, Tiger Barbs inhabit soft, acidic waters with moderate currents, where they form large, active schools and forage for small invertebrates, algae, and organic debris. They are social but semi-aggressive, known for their playful nature and occasional fin-nipping behavior.
Aquarium Care
In aquariums, the Green Tiger Barb thrives in a well-planted tank with soft substrate, open swimming areas, and moderate water flow. They should be kept in groups of at least six or more to minimize aggression and encourage natural schooling behavior. Ideal tankmates include fast-moving or similarly active fish, such as other barbs, danios, and larger tetras.
Size and Suitability
Growing to about 5–7 cm (2–2.5 inches), the Green Tiger Barb is ideal for medium-sized community aquariums. Its vibrant green coloration, lively schooling behavior, and social interactions make it a dynamic and visually striking addition to active aquarium setups.
