Description

The Green Terror (Andinoacara rivulatus) is a vibrant and captivating cichlid species native to the freshwater rivers and streams of South America, particularly in Ecuador and Peru. Known for its iridescent green and blue scales, orange-edged fins, and bold personality, this cichlid is a true showpiece in any aquarium.

In the wild, the Green Terror inhabits slow-moving waters with rocky substrates and submerged roots, feeding on insects, small fish, and plant matter. Its robust and territorial nature makes it a dominant species in its natural habitat.

In aquariums, the Green Terror requires a large tank of at least 300 liters to accommodate its size and active behavior. It thrives in warm water with stable conditions, a sandy substrate, and decor like rocks and driftwood for hiding and territorial boundaries. While stunning to look at, this cichlid can be aggressive, particularly during breeding, so tankmates should be similarly sized and robust, or it may be kept in a species-specific setup.

With proper care, the Green Terror can grow up to 30 cm (12 inches) and live for over a decade, making it a favorite among experienced aquarists who appreciate its bold personality and striking appearance.
