The Giant Danio (Devario aequipinnatus) is a large, active, and hardy freshwater fish native to the fast-flowing rivers, streams, and ponds of South and Southeast Asia, particularly in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. Known for its striking iridescent blue and gold horizontal stripes that run along its sleek, torpedo-shaped body, the Giant Danio is a vibrant and energetic addition to any aquarium.In the wild, Giant Danios inhabit clear, fast-moving waters with rocky substrates and abundant vegetation. They are omnivorous, feeding on insects, small crustaceans, algae, and plant matter, often darting swiftly through the water to catch their prey.In aquariums, Giant Danios thrive in spacious tanks with strong water flow to mimic their natural environment. They prefer a setup with open swimming areas, sturdy plants, and rocks or driftwood for occasional shelter. As active schooling fish, they should be kept in groups of at least six to reduce stress and display their natural, dynamic swimming behavior.
