Description
The Electric Blue Acara (Andinoacara pulcher) is a stunning freshwater cichlid native to the slow-moving rivers, lakes, and streams of South America. Its shimmering electric blue scales, accented by touches of yellow and green, make it one of the most visually striking and sought-after cichlids for aquarists.
Unlike many cichlid species, the Electric Blue Acara is relatively peaceful, making it a great choice for community tanks. In its natural habitat, it thrives in warm, soft waters with sandy substrates and plenty of aquatic vegetation. It feeds on insects, worms, and small crustaceans.
In aquariums, the Electric Blue Acara requires a tank of at least 150 liters, with a soft substrate, moderate water flow, and decor such as driftwood, rocks, and plants for hiding and exploring. It thrives in water temperatures of 24?28?C and appreciates stable water parameters. Tankmates should include similarly sized, non-aggressive fish to avoid stress or conflict.
This hardy and adaptable cichlid grows to about 15?20 cm (6?8 inches) and is a joy to watch, whether it?s showing off its colors or interacting with its environment. Its striking appearance and manageable temperament make it a favorite among aquarists of all experience levels.
