The Cupid Cichlid (Biotodoma cupido) is a peaceful and elegant freshwater cichlid native to the slow-moving rivers and floodplains of the Amazon Basin in South America. Renowned for its subtle iridescent hues of blue, green, and gold, this species adds a delicate and serene presence to aquariums.In the wild, Cupid Cichlids inhabit soft, sandy substrates with dense vegetation. They are omnivorous, feeding on small invertebrates, insect larvae, and organic debris while foraging along the bottom.In aquariums, the Cupid Cichlid thrives in a well-decorated tank with a soft substrate and plenty of plants, driftwood, and rocks to mimic its natural environment. It is a calm and social species that does well in community tanks with other peaceful fish, such as tetras, Corydoras, and dwarf gouramis. While generally non-aggressive, they may display mild territorial behavior during breeding.Growing to about 10-12 cm (4-5 inches), the Cupid Cichlid is an ideal choice for medium to large aquariums.
