Known for its vibrant orange body with black vertical stripes and playful demeanor, the Clown Loach is a popular and striking addition to aquariums. In the wild, Clown Loaches inhabit slow-moving rivers with soft, sandy substrates, and they prefer areas with plenty of hiding spots like submerged roots and plants. They are omnivorous and feed on small invertebrates, worms, and plant matter. In aquariums, Clown Loaches thrive in groups of at least three or four, as they are social and enjoy interacting with one another. They require a tank with plenty of open swimming space, a soft substrate to protect their sensitive barbels, and plenty of hiding spots such as caves, driftwood, and rocks. While generally peaceful, they may become territorial during breeding or with other bottom-dwelling fish.Growing to 25-35 cm (10-14 inches), the Clown Loach is a large, active species best suited for aquarists with a spacious tank.
