The Bumblebee Catfish (Microglanis iheringi) is a small, striking freshwater species native to the fast-flowing rivers and tributaries of South America, particularly in Brazil, Venezuela, and Colombia. Named for its bold, contrasting black and yellow stripes that resemble the pattern of a bumblebee, this catfish is a popular choice among aquarists for its unique appearance and peaceful temperament.In the wild, Bumblebee Catfish inhabit shallow, rocky streams with moderate to strong currents. They are nocturnal bottom-dwellers, often hiding among rocks, driftwood, and leaf litter during the day and becoming active at night to forage. Their diet consists of small invertebrates, insect larvae, and organic debris.In aquariums, the Bumblebee Catfish thrives in a well-decorated tank with a soft, sandy substrate and plenty of hiding spots created with rocks, caves, and driftwood to mimic its natural habitat. They prefer subdued lighting and appreciate densely planted areas where they can feel secure. While generally peaceful, they may be territorial with other bottom-dwelling species if space is limited.
