Description

The Albino Tinfoil Barb (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii variant) is a large, fast-swimming freshwater fish known for its shimmering silver-white body, bright red fins, and striking albino coloration. This schooling species is a selectively bred variant of the Tinfoil Barb, a fish native to the large rivers and floodplains of Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Habitat and Behavior
In the wild, Albino Tinfoil Barbs inhabit large, slow-moving rivers, flooded forests, and reservoirs, where they forage for plant matter, small invertebrates, and organic debris. They are highly active schooling fish that require plenty of swimming space. Due to their large size and fast movement, they are best suited for spacious tanks with other large, peaceful fish.
Aquarium Care
In aquariums, the Albino Tinfoil Barb thrives in a large tank with open swimming areas, a soft substrate, and moderate water flow. They should be kept in groups of at least five or more to reduce stress and encourage natural schooling behavior. While generally peaceful, their size and speed may intimidate smaller tankmates, so they are best housed with other large, robust fish such as Bala Sharks, Silver Dollars, and Giant Danios.
Size and Suitability
Growing to about 30–35 cm (12–14 inches), the Albino Tinfoil Barb is best suited for large aquariums with powerful filtration to accommodate its active nature and high waste production. Its vibrant albino coloration, fast swimming, and schooling behavior make it a stunning addition to large community tanks.
