Description

The Albino Tiger Barb (Puntigrus tetrazona variant) is a striking and energetic freshwater fish known for its pale golden-white body with faint orange stripes and vibrant red fins. This selectively bred variant of the Tiger Barb retains the species’ lively nature and schooling behavior while offering a unique color variation for aquarists.
Habitat and Behavior
In the wild, Tiger Barbs are found in the slow-moving rivers and forest streams of Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Borneo. They are active schooling fish, known for their playful but sometimes fin-nipping behavior, especially when kept in small numbers.
Aquarium Care
In aquariums, the Albino Tiger Barb thrives in a well-planted tank with soft substrate, open swimming areas, and moderate water flow. They should be kept in groups of at least six to reduce aggression and encourage natural schooling behavior. Ideal tankmates include fast-moving or similarly active fish such as other barbs, danios, and larger tetras.
Size and Suitability
Growing to about 5–7 cm (2–2.5 inches), the Albino Tiger Barb is ideal for medium-sized community aquariums. Its bright coloration, energetic schooling behavior, and social interactions make it a lively and entertaining addition to any active aquarium setup.
