Description

The Albino Cobalt Zebra Cichlid (Metriaclima callainos variant) is a striking and energetic freshwater species native to Lake Malawi in East Africa. This selectively bred variant features a pale white to pinkish body with red eyes, giving it a unique and eye-catching appearance compared to its naturally blue-colored counterpart. Known for its bold personality and territorial nature, this cichlid is a favorite among African cichlid enthusiasts.

In the wild, Cobalt Zebra Cichlids inhabit rocky shorelines with plenty of caves and crevices, where they graze on algae and small invertebrates. They are mbuna cichlids, meaning they are highly active rock dwellers that establish territories within the aquarium.
In aquariums, the Albino Cobalt Zebra Cichlid thrives in a setup with plenty of rocks, caves, and hiding spots to allow for territorial boundaries. They do best in groups with other mbuna cichlids of similar size and temperament. Due to their aggressive and territorial nature, they should be housed with other robust African cichlids rather than peaceful community fish.
Growing to about 12–15 cm (5–6 inches), the Albino Cobalt Zebra Cichlid is best suited for medium to large aquariums with excellent filtration and frequent water changes. Its vibrant albino coloration, active nature, and bold personality make it a standout choice for aquarists looking to add a unique and dynamic fish to their African cichlid setup.
