The T-Bar Cichlid (Amatitlania sajica), also known as the Sajica Cichlid, is a beautiful and moderately sized freshwater fish native to the rivers and streams of Central America, particularly in Costa Rica and Panama. It is named for the distinctive “T”-shaped marking on its body, which contrasts against its shimmering blue, gold, and green highlights, giving it a striking appearance.In the wild, the T-Bar Cichlid inhabits slow-moving waters with rocky substrates, submerged roots, and moderate vegetation. It is an omnivore, feeding on small invertebrates, plant matter, and organic debris. Known for its adaptability and manageable temperament, it is less aggressive than many other cichlid species, making it suitable for community tanks.In aquariums, the T-Bar Cichlid thrives in tanks with a soft substrate, plenty of rocks and driftwood for shelter, and open swimming spaces. While relatively peaceful, it may become territorial during breeding, so tankmates should be non-aggressive and of similar size.Growing to about 10-12 cm (4-5 inches), the T-Bar Cichlid is an excellent choice for aquarists seeking a colorful and active fish with a mild temperament.
