The Geophagus brasiliensis, commonly known as the Pearl Eartheater, is a stunning and hardy cichlid native to the rivers, streams, and coastal lagoons of Brazil and surrounding regions. Its name reflects its unique feeding behavior of sifting through sandy substrates for food, as well as its beautiful pearlescent spots that adorn its body.This species has a robust build, with a silver to light brown base color and shimmering pearl-like markings across its body and fins. During breeding, males often display enhanced colors and become more territorial.
